Mawkyrwat: After more than a month in captivity, a minor boy who was kidnapped by a suspected Bangladeshi gang from Rajai village under Ranikor Civil Sub-Division was released by the kidnappers in the Indo-Bangla border on Thursday.
Sources informed that the boy Ambrius N Marak was released on Thursday morning near Kalapahar bridge in the Indo-Bangla border.
“He was unharmed and is now in the custody of his parents,” sources added.
Marak was abducted from Rajai village on December 22, 2018 and was taken across the international border.
“The South West Khasi Hills police maintained good relations with the Bangladesh police and they continued to share information regarding the case which resulted in the arrest of some members of the gang,” sources said.
Police also denied that the kidnappers had released the boy only after being paid ransom and were of the opinion that the gang released the boy after continuous operations by the Bangladesh police.
Meanwhile, a public rally was held in Ranikor on Wednesday under the leadership of United A,chik Youth Federation of South West Khasi Hills president Sanggra Marak to condemn the minor’s kidnapping.
A large number of people turned up for the rally including the Block Development Officer of Ranikor and police personnel. The president of the youth body said that the rally aims at sending a strong message against such crimes.
