SHILLONG: The state government has issued a circular for the expeditious disposal of pending rape cases by investigating agencies.
According to the government, the state is giving special emphasis on safety and security of women and children and in this regard, it has issued instructions to expedite investigation into cases of sexual harassment.
Moreover, a timeline has to be fixed for submission of medical and postmortem reports.
This was informed by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma during the Republic Day function in Tura on Saturday.
“Capacity and competence building programmes are being organised from time to time to equip inquiry officers in sensitively and professionally handling cases of crimes against women and children, which is an essential part in law enforcement. Further, police officers and police personnel at all ranks are given regular in-service courses on human trafficking and crime against women in collaboration with leading NGOs in the state,” he said.
