GUWAHATI: Assam chief minister, Sarbananda Sonowal on Monday told a group of law students that there had been misinformation campaign on the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill (CAB), 2016 in the state and asked the students to help disseminate proper information on the Bill.
Interacting with the students of Bishnu Ram Medhi Government Law College, Guwahati at the central hall of Assam Legislative Assembly here Sonowal said 1.9 crore foreigners were not going to come to Assam once the Bill got passed as projected by certain quarters to destabilise the state.
Calling on the law students to educate themselves with the knowledge about the right connotations of the Bill so that they can spread the correct message in the society as future lawyers, Sonowal urged the youth of the state to take advantage of the recently opened Start Up Assam – The Nest, the incubation centre for budding entrepreneurs, to work on their innovative ideas to develop enterprise and bring industrial revolution in the state.
He said that the state government was working resolutely for the holistic development of the young generation of the state and urged all sections of the society not to create any distraction for the students by spreading false information regarding Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2019.
The students of the college were given an exposure tour of the Assam Legislative Assembly to let them witness the Assembly session and thereafter.
Saying that there was no shortcut to success and the students must work hard to achieve success in life, Sonowal called upon the youth of the state to stay alert to not get swayed by misinformation campaign being run by vested interest groups about the Bill.
“In last two and half years, we have been making a lot of efforts to develop the state and Advantage Assam summit which brought investment of Rs 12,000 crore to the state, increasing flight frequency at LGBI Airport and starting of direct flights to international destinations like Singapore, cargo service for exporting agricultural products of Assam to different countries are results of the state government’s sincere attempts to develop the state’s economy,” the chief minister asserted.
