SHILLONG: Neil Antonio War, the UDP candidate from Laitumkhrah-Malki constituency, will contest the council elections after a brief illness.
War was hospitalised and there were rumours that he would not contest. However, War told reporters on Monday that he would contest the elections. He said it were his supporters who did the canvassing for him.
The UDP state election committee has released the list featuring two candidates for the council polls on Monday following the recommendations from respective UDP circles and also district units.
The candidates are Herald Son Dkhar from Shiliang Myntang and Winning Garland Sungoh from Mookaiaw, both in West Jaintia Hills.
Meanwhile, senior UDP leader Bindo Lanong said the party will release its manifesto for the council polls this week. He reiterated the need to strengthen the village courts and implement the Tenth Schedule, or anti-defection law, of the Constitution in the district councils.
