SHILLONG: It has been two-and-a-half years since the mysterious death of a 16 -year-old girl from Umlyngka in Upper Shillong rocked the state, but the case seems to have gone into cold storage with the state police still awaiting the forensic report from the Forensic Science Laboratory, Hyderabad.
The girl went missing from her house at Umlyngka on July 24, 2016 and her body was recovered from dam site, Umiam, on July 29.
East Khasi Hills police sources said that they were still awaiting the forensic report even as officials admitted that FSL in Hyderabad has many other cases which could be the reason for the delay.
The sources said the state police have sent several reminders to the FSL to expedite the report.
They also said that usually, Meghalaya Police sends its request to FSL either in Hyderabad or in Kolkata.
The police have quizzed more than 60 people in connection with the case. The face of the girl was partially charred and hair burnt which gave rise to suspicion of murder.
