Drivers should have first-aid knowledge, feels WJH DC
JOWAI: If you are planning to get a driving licence from West Jaintia Hills, you may have to have first-aid knowledge. As the 30th National Road Safety week under the theme ‘Sadak Suraksha-Jeevan suraksha’ was inaugurated here on Monday, Deputy Commissioner Garod Dykes urged the district transport officer to consider issuing licences to those who have a certificate for first-aid from the Health Department. The DC felt that by doing so life can be saved. He has also assured his cooperation to the Transport and Police Departments. He said accidents can be prevented if every citizen follows traffic rules. The representatives from the Health Department at the awareness programme gave a demonstration on how to provide first-aid in case of an accident.The Road safety week will be observed till February 10.

Rashtriya Kishor Swashthya Karyakram observed in Ri Bhoi
NONGPOH: A swimming and drawing competition was held at Thrills Fun Park in Sumer to mark the fifth anniversary of Rashtriya Kishor Swashthya Karyakram (RKSK), a centrally sponsored programme on adolescent health. This event involving children of shelter homes in Umpling block was part of a month-long celebration. Ferdinand Suchiang, an international martial arts champion, was the chief guest. Dr AJ Syiemlieh, district nodal officer of RKSK, and Kishore Subba, professional swimmer and member of Meghalaya Swimming Association were among other guests.

AHAM interim body formed at Chondonpara
TURA: The executive governing body of the AHAM interim body was recently formed at Chondonpara under Betasing Block in South West Garo Hills. Members to lead the new governing body were also elected with Jackrobirth B Marak as president, Selpin A Sangma as vice president, Frieth D Sangma as general secretary, Barning R Marak as joint secretary, Santu A Sangma as finance secretary, Cheygrik R Marak as education secretary, Mohen A Sangma as organizing secretary, Walseng Marak as public relation, grievances and redressal secretary and Karaksingh Marak as publicity secretary including five other executive members.
