SHILLONG: North East Students’ Organisation has asserted that there will be unrest in the whole of the North East if the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Bill (CAB) is passed in Rajya Sabha.
In a statement issued here on Thursday, NESO chairman, Samuel Jyrwa reiterated that the Government of India should not introduce this Bill in the Rajya Sabha and if in any case this Bill is passed in the Rajya Sabha then there will be unrest in the whole of the North East
“The Government of India should take the blame and be responsible of any eventuality and will also further alienate the people of the North East,” he said
The statement came from NESO even as the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is visiting the three states of North East including Assam, Tripura and Arunachal Pradesh on February 9.
Reiterating its strong opposition to the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016 which was passed in the Lok Sabha in spite of the wide protest not only by the indigenous peoples of the North East, the NESO leadership added that this was another example of political injustice and that only wemt to show that the Government of India had no regard for the Indigenous peoples of the North East but rather this move was intentionally done to reduce the Indigenous Peoples of the North East to a Minority in their own land.
“The NESO would like to send a clear message to the Prime Minister and to the Government of India that the indigenous peoples of the North East will not accept this draconian Bill, “ the statement from NESO added
