SHILLONG: The oldest candidate in the district council elections, former MLA and MDC Martle Mukhim, was all fired up in comparison to young candidates who arrived to file nominations on Wednesday. The 69-year-old leader will be contesting from Mawkynrew constituency on HSPDP ticket.
Mukhim, who is a former minister, reminisced the days when the district council was strong. According to him, tradition-al institutions like the Syiem, Sordar and Raid have to be strengthened because “our people need protection from outsiders”.
Minister Banteidor Lyngdoh’s wife Amanda Pakyntein will contest from Mawkynrewon PDF ticket.
