SHILLONG: UDP candidate Paul Lyngdoh on Thursday said that the state government and the district councils are undergoing a relationship crisis and bemoaned the gap between the government and the district council.
Speaking to reporters after filing his nomination papers, he said that the autonomous district councils are unable to function well and according to him, the executive committee of the district council should coordinate with the state government as he pointed to “the tussle with the KHADC and state government.”
Speaking about Auguster Jyrwa, a former member of the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) and Congress candidate from Jaiaw, Lyngdoh called him “my grandchild” and stated that he joined the KSU two generations prior to Jyrwa.
“I was in the KSU for 10 years,” Lyngdoh said and added that Jaiaw constituency needs matured and tested people.“We need young leaders who are enthusiastic. We need leaders who have experience with the vigour of a youth”, he said.
Expressing his appreciation for the bill on ILP and maintaining that the district council has done its part, Lyngdoh said that the ILP has to be implemented at the level of the state government. “Ideally speaking, it is the state government that will take the initiative,” Lyngdoh said.
