SHILLONG: The tussle between KHNAM factions led by Adelbert Nongrum and Pyndap Saibon over the allotment of symbol for candidates in Jaiaw district council constituency, will be solved on Tuesday.
The tussle in Jaiaw was after Thomas Passah fielded by Saibon faction sought the official symbol of KHNAM.
Passah is contesting as Independent candidate, while his opponent Strong Pillar Kharjana supported by Adelbert faction is contesting from KHNAM.
Both Passah and Kharjana wanted dao symbol of KHNAM.
An official source said as per the district council rules, the returning officer can draw lots to decide the allotment of symbol when there is a dispute involving a registered unrecognised party.
However, Adelbert had claimed that when the nominations of KHNAM candidates were found valid, there should not be any reason to deny dao symbol to his KHNAM candidate.
According to Adelbert, since KHNAM is a registered party, the symbol should be allotted to his nominee whereas Passah is contesting as Independent and he is eligible for any other free symbol.
