GSU demands police outposts in SWKH

Shillong: The Garo Students Union (Khasi Hills Zone) met Home Minister James Sangma and submitted a memorandum seeking his intervention to set up the Police Outposts in Khonjoy and Moheshkolla villages under South West Khasi Hills District.
Since Khonjoy and Moheshkolla are adjacent to the Bagli coal and limestone export port; reports have been pouring in about dacoits, kidnappers and extortions operating in the area, the press statement said. It added that the people of the area are living in fear. The presence of the keepers of law and order is necessary for the maintenance of peaceful existence.
Setting the police outposts at Khonjoy and Moheshkolla will curb any form of illegal anti-social activities and provide security to the people, the statement added.
The union urge the government to install the police outposts at the earliest and the Home Minister promised that the matter would be taken up with the concerned authority.
