SHILLONG: The Dhaka-Shillong bus service, Shyamoli launched a year ago, will be extended to other cities in the North East.
Informing this, the Assistant High Commissioner of Bangladesh to India, Shah Mohammad Tanvir Monsur said, “There is already a bus service, Shillong-Dhaka bus service, Shyamoli. We are trying to extend this bus service to other cities of NE also”.
Monsur is in the city to attend a workshop on tourism.
Border haats
With the India and Bangladeshi government’s efforts to improve border haats, more people will be interested in trade between Bangladesh and North East India.
Monsur said the border haats are improving every day. “In comparison to the last 10 years, there is remarkable progress and it will progress more and because of modernisation, more business people will be interested in trade between Bangladesh and North East India,” he said.
He pointed out that trade will be given the desired boost with the establishment of road, rail and air connectivity.
He recalled of an agreement signed between Bangladesh and India that Chittagong can be used by North East traders which will change the entire supply chain.
He added the business pattern and the border activities will be enhanced.
However, he said the process of adding more products from the North East will take some time due to the issues related to better connectivity.
