Govt to raise gratuity for deficit teachers to Rs 10 lakh

SHILLONG: The state government has decided to increase death-cum-retirement gratuity for deficit teachers from Rs 3.5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh as recommended by the Fifth Pay Commission.
This was informed by the Director of School Education (DSEL) on Tuesday when members of the Khasi Jaintia Deficit School Teachers and the Garo Hills Deficit School Teachers’ and Employees’ Association met him.
The government will also consider the monthly and regular pay to deficit teachers instead of the outdated system of once in every three or four months.
The associations submitted a memorandum on various demands of deficit teachers like release of pending arrears of the revised pay before March 31.
The director assured the associations that the government has agreed in principle to fulfil the demands at the earliest.
The associations said the sub-divisional school education officer was directed to not delay any submission of utilisation certificate to enable release of pay in time from the current academic year.
