Meghalaya eDistrict Project bags Digital India Awards

NONGPOH: In another feat for the state, the eDistrict Project has received the Digital India Awards in the ‘Special Mention Awards’ category during a function held at India Habitat Centre in New Delhi.
Union Minister of Information Technology Ravishankar Prasad conferred the award on a team of officials from Meghalaya led by CP Gotmare, Director of Information Technology and Communication.
The eDistrict Project was implemented by the Department of Information Technology and Communication (IT&C) with National Informatics Centre (NIC), Meghalaya, as the application development agency.
The project was launched in Meghalaya on January 21, 2016. About 2 lakh digitally signed certificates have been issued till date. It is one of the projects in the state that provides online with end to end solutions.
In line with Digital India programme, eDistrict is one of the Mission Mode Project and Meghalaya has implemented eDistrict services in all the 11 districts and four sub-divisions.
Digital India is a flagship programme of the government aimed at providing barrier free and round the clock services. It seeks to leverage the universal access to mobile connectivity, public internet access, electronic delivery of services, information for all and IT benefits of citizens.
