SHILLONG: UDP vice-president, Allantry F Dkhar said post District Councils elections the party will push the MDA to break its alliance with the BJP.

Speaking to reporters here on Monday, Dkhar said the MDA coordination committee will have a meeting after the Council elections in which one of the agenda includes the discussion to remove the two BJP MLAs – AL Hek and Sanbor Shullai.

The BJP introduced the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) which was met with stiff opposition from political parties, organisations from the North East resulting in protests.

With the CAB being the bone of contention, the BJP has been seen as an adversary in the state and calls to drop the BJP MLAs were raised.

Although the Bill was not tabled in Rajya Sabha in its last session, yet the row of the CAB revived with BJP national president Amit Shah vowing to bring back the Bill, once the BJP is back in power.

Dkhar said that the party was firm on their stand to oust the BJP from the MDA government.

Asked, if the UDP will snap ties with the MDA if their demand to remove the BJP is not met, he simply said, “We will cross the bridge when it comes.”

Dkhar contended that it is meaningless to be part of North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) –a brainchild of the BJP, as the BJP is adamant to implement the CAB which is a threat to the identity of the indigenous people.

According to him, the UDP is supporting the NPP in the MDA-led government and is not aware of how the BJP, People’s Democratic Alliance and an independent MLA came on board.

He maintained it would be a different case if UDP was leading the government.

Slamming the BJP leaders such as like Himanta Biswa Sarma, Union Ministers- K Alphonse and Kiren Rijiju, Dkhar said the BJP managed to hijack the formation of government giving an appearance that BJP played a major role in the government formation.

Stating that number counts, he said the BJP has no major role to play since it only has two MLAs.

On the other hand, Dkhar has reiterated opposition to the Congress party for indulging in misinformation against the UDP.

He pointed out that the chairman of the All India Congress Committee announced that the CAB will be part of Congress manifesto for the Lok Sabha elections.
