SHILLONG: The UDP is firm to remain equidistant from two national parties, the Congress and the BJP, and has exuded confidence that it will form the executive committee in the Khasi and Jaintia Hills autonomous district councils.
When asked about the understanding between the UDP and NPP, UDP working president Paul Lyngdoh told reporters here on Tuesday, “We are confident to form the EC on our own.”
The UDP has all along called for unity of regional parties and it formed the Regional Democratic Alliance with the HSPDP before the Assembly elections last year.
The party has also demanded the ouster of the BJP from the MDA-led alliance following the saffron party’s adamant attitude to go ahead with the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill. UDP has seven MLAs in the MDA whose other coalition partners are PDF, HSPDP, BJP and one Independent MLA.
