SHILLONG: Congress leader Luizinho Faleiro has asked Meghalaya Chief Minister to sever ties with the BJP over the issue of Citizenship Amendment Bill.
Referring to BJP national president Amit Shah’s announcement to bring back the bill, Faleiro — who is the AICC general secretary in charge of Meghalaya and three other northeastern states — wondered how Chief Minister Conrad Sangma can still remain with the party.
He was addressing the media persons in Guwahati on Wednesday.
“Isn’t it (Shah’s announcement) a deliberate punch on the face of Mr Sangma? Does he not have any self respect? Is he then a part of the conspiracy to support the bill clandestinely and show outside that he is opposing it,” Faleiro said as he questioned the moral right of other NEDA member parties who are still with the alliance.
“These NEDA members cannot fool the people of North East with their opportunist politics. If they have any values left and if they are truly concerned about the cause of the people of North East, the NEDA members would have resigned the very day Amit Shah announced that the BJP will bring back CAB if voted to power in 2019,” he added.
The allies of BJP-led North East Democratic Alliance which are playing “opportunist politics” do not have any moral right to remain with the saffron party, senior Congress leader Luizinho Faleiro has said.
Faleiro said, “The agenda of the RSS and BJP is to impose its will on the people of North East even when it goes against their interests and welfare.”
As he lambasted the BJP for its “sinister designs” and chided its “unprincipled and power hungry” partners, he lauded AICC chief Rahul Gandhi for taking up the cause of stalling the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) in the Rajya Sabha saying, “The people of North East cherish certain values which are intrinsic to their culture, identity and tradition and the Congress party understands and respects these values and will leave no stone unturned to protect them.”
From Meghalaya, NPP and UDP are part of the NEDA.
