TURA: The United Action Committee (UAC) comprising of organizations from North Garo Hills like the FAF, FKJGP, AYWO, AAYF, Matgrik Do’mesal and all youth clubs of Bajengdoba region has submitted a representation to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma urging him to look into various urgent issues concerning the district.
Among other issues, the committee raised the issue of unsystematic and poor quality of the ongoing road construction work from NH51 to Rongronghat via Raja Apal village.
“The ongoing road construction work along the said route is extremely pathetic much to the dissatisfaction of the citizens. We can gauge the quality of the work on the spot as the freshly constructed road is getting disintegrated rapidly even on merely stepping on it. We had highlighted the issue to the concerned Department but to no avail. We demand that necessary directions be given to the concerned officials from CM’s office to see that the construction be carried out as per estimates,” the UAC said.
The UAC reminded of the proposed setting up of institutions like the Jawahar Novodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) at Raja A’pal, the 100 bedded Hospital at Chidaret and the 7th MLP Batallion Headquarter at Nengsa A’pal which has failed to take off till date.
“The Government has given assurances on numerous occasions to fulfill these demands of the public after the agreement with Nokmas of the designated area. The people of the region have been looking forward to receiving quality education, better treatment and economic opportunities with the advent of these institutions. We demand that the government expedite the work as promised,” it said.
The UAC also pointed out that mobile network service in the region has deteriorated over the past few months with call drops, service interruption and complete shutdown becoming the order of the day. It urged the government to immediately look into the issue and find a solution to the problem at the earliest.
