Counting of votes for district council polls on Saturday

SHILLONGThe fate of 231 candidates contesting in the election to two Autonomous District Councils (ADCs) of Khasi Hills and Jaintia Hills, will be decided on Saturday when counting of votes will be carried out.

The district council elections were held on Wednesday.

The counting of votes for Khasi Hills will be held in Polo ground while the counting centers in West Jaintia Hills will be functioning from the office of DC at Khliehriat. One counting centre has been set up at Jaintia College. Counting centres have been set up in the offices of SDO (Civil) in Amlarem, Sohra and Mairang.

Fate of 130 candidates in the fray in KHADC polls and 101 candidates JHADC polls will be decided on Saturday.

Two MLAs, Independent Lambor Malngiang (Nongkrem) and NPP candidate Gigur Myrthong (Mawshynrut) are contesting in the KHADC polls. However, no MLA is in the fray in JHADC.

Some of the prominent contestants are former MLA Ronnie Lyngdoh, Teilinia Thangkhiew, former KHADC CEM PN Syiem, former MLA Paul Lyngdoh, Grace Mary Kharpuri, Latiplang Kharkongor, former MLA Martle Mukhim, JHADC chief executive member MD Rymbai, Lamdibok Sumer, Robinus Syngkon, Moonlight Pariat.
