15 sitting MDCs lose in KHADC

SHILLONG/ JOWAI: Fifteen sitting MDCs of KHADC faced defeat in the February 27 elections, the results of which were declared on Saturday, only to be replaced by newcomers or veterans.
The MDCs who lost are Rona Khymdeit, James Sylliang, Donkupar Sumer, Rangkynsai Kharbuki, Jansing Tynsong, Donevan Wanlang, Teilinia Syiem Thangkhiew, Neil Antonio War, James Ban Basaiawmoit, Hadian Lyngdoh, G.L. Nongsiej and Morningstar Mawsor.
Blandingstar Warjri, Ricky Shullai and Equator Nongrang, who were elected to the KHADC in the 2016 council bye-elections, were also defeated.
Voters in Jaintia Hills have elected 19 new faces to the JHADC while rejecting 17 sitting MDCs.
The new faces include a PhD scholar, a lawyer and an engineer, who is a former SDO (PWD), Lakhon Biam. Biam was elected from Nangbah. He had retired from the post of SDO (PWD) and contested the last Assembly election, but was not successful.
A law graduate, Krison Langstang (UDP), was elected from Sumer with the lowest margin of three votes defeating his opponent, Rollingson Dkhar, who had earlier resigned as sectional assistant of the PWD. Langstang secured 1982 votes against Dkhar’s 1979.
A PhD scholar, Sanki Shangpung (UDP), defeated two-time sitting MDC Joinriwel Pyrtuh of (NPP) from Bataw-Lakadong by 523 votes.
The other new faces who were elected include Gilroy Tariang (NPP) from War East, who defeated the former JHADC CEM, Lamdibok Sumber, Lakhon Dkhar of Sohmynting Khliehtyrshi, who defeated the JHADC CEM, Madonbai Rymbai, Ailad Bhoi from Mukhla-Wahiajer, Jesse Suiam (NPP) from Ummulong-Moodymai, who defeated the former JHADC Chairman, Laitsing Shylla, Dawan Lyngdoh (UDP) from Myngsngat-Khanduli, Aiborlang Shadap (INC) from Barato-Mukroh, Habahun Dkhar from Saphai, J Treilang Suchiang (UDP) from Shangpung and Saron Paswet, who defeated the veteran Moonlight Pariat. Pariat was elected for five consecutive terms. Paswet is a brother-in-law of Transport Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar.
Other new faces are Lomris Lyngdoh from Muthlong Sohkymphor, Finelywell Bareh from Khliehriat-Rymbai, Emlang Lamare from Narpuh, former district council employee Eveningstar Teron, who resigned just before the election, and former Jaintia Youth Federation (JYF) leader Bright Star Chyrmang, who was elected from Jowai North defeating a lawyer and sitting MDC Marki Mulieh.
