SHILLONG: The Congress, which has emerged as the single largest party in KHADC winning 10 of the 29 seats, has offered the post of CEM to UDP.
However, UDP president Donkupar Roy said the partners in the MDA will, in all likelihood, form the Executive Committee (EC) in both KHADC and JHADC.
He said this soon after his meeting with Congress spokesperson HM Shangpliang at his residence.
The Congress leader had gone to propose a tie-up with the UDP in the KHADC soon after the results were declared.
Shangpliang was of the view that with UDP in six constituencies and Congress in 10, the EC will be stable. He added that the Congress has offered the post of CEM to UDP and the latter would get back after discussing the matter.
He also claimed that the two independent MDCs and even HSPDP MDC Martle N Mukhim are with the Congress.
On the other hand, the UDP president said he will discuss the Congress’s offer with all the MDCs. However, Roy was clear that those who are in the ruling MDA will form the EC.
Later, after the meeting of the UDP, to a query on the Congress’s proposal to align with UDP, he said the party prefers uniformity as the UDP has an alliance with NPP at the state level and therefore they would not like to have a different combination in the district council.
The Congress was followed by NPP with seven and UDP six seats in KHADC.
