KSU demands building of dismantled SSA schools on disputed areas

NONGPOH: Registering their strong discontentment over the  indifferent attitude of the state government in taking swift action to renovate the dismantled SSA school at Khlieh Umwang and Madan Umwang in Raid Nongtung, Ri Bhoi District, the KSU, North Khasi Hills Eastern Border Area has slammed the state government and met the district head to seek her intervention on the matter.

It may mentioned that, the SSA Lower Primary School at Khlieh Umwang which was sanctioned by the Education Department of the state at around Rs 19 lakh was dismantled by the Assam Police on the 10 August, 2018 and construction of the SSA Lower Primary School sanctioned at Rs 19 lakh at Madan Umwang the construction was stopped by the Karbi Anglong Autonomous District Council who warned the Rangbah Shnong not to start the construction work.

During the meeting, the delegation of KSU which was led by Banjop Maring, President Eastern Border Area and Augustine Nongrum the secretary along with other member met R.M Kurbah, Deputy Commissioner of Ri Bhoi District and also discussed certain issues that had affected the populace of Raid Nongtung.

Speaking to the Pressmen after the meeting, Banjop Maring, said that, the Student body is very much concerned over the step motherly attitude of the state government toward the people of border areas especially the Raid Nongtung (Block II), the body also accused the government of being mute spectator toward the alleged action of the Assam government toward the people of Block II.

“It is a matter of grave concern that the government had not taken any initiative to resolve the tense border issues, especially to take swift action in renovating the dismantled school at Khlieh Umwang and Madan Umwang making the school children of the area scapegoat who were compelled to bear the brunt of the heat and rain due to the non-available of proper school building”, Maring stressed.

Maring also stated that, the government of Assam was adopting double standard  in carrying out many developmental projects at the disputed area of both the states, whereas the government of Meghalaya had been keeping mum on this.

The KSU, Eastern Border area had strongly demanded the state government to take appropriate action against the construction of Police outpost by the Assam government at Umru village amidst protest from the local populace of Raid Nongtung, who fear that this outpost will hamper peace and tranquility in the area. The student body had also demanded urgent commencement of the construction of the two SSA school in Raid Nongtung for the welfare of school students of the area.
