SHILLONG: Shillong Police have assured that one of the most notorious criminals in the state, David lyngdoh, will not remain a phantom for long, and will be arrested soon.
Lyngdoh escaped from police custody in the office of the Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills, last week while awaiting production in the sessions court here.
Also known as ‘massage man’ and ‘Phantom’, Lyngdoh has so far given police the slip thrice.
SP (City) Steve Rynjah on Tuesday said, “I guarantee that we will get him”, adding that police have received some information about Lyngdoh’s whereabouts.
It may be mentioned that there are 39 cases registered against Lyngdoh in East Khasi Hills district alone.
He was brought from Nongpoh to Shillong to appear in the sessions court and while waiting for his turn at the DC’s office, he managed to escape from the washroom.
Three police personnel assigned to guard him have been suspended following his dramatic escape.
Lyngdoh, who goes by aliases of Raja and Albert Malngiang, was first arrested in 2010 but was released on bail. His second arrest was on July 12, 2011. He was granted bail after a few months.
He has been arrested several times for his crimes particularly burglary.
In 2015, Phantom was booked under Section 3(1) of Meghalaya Preventive Detention Act (MPDA) for his involvement in several cases of theft in Shillong City.
