SHILLONG: Four organisations have raised objection to the transfer of the East Khasi Hills deputy commissioner and said they want indigenous officers to run the Meghalaya administration.
The four pressure groups — Khasi Students’ Union (KSU), FKJGP, Hynniewtrep Youth Front (HNYF) and Ri Bhoi Youth Federation (RBYF) — disapproved the trend of giving away official posts to non-indigenous people.
In a statement issued here, KSU president Lambok Marngar said, “We were informed that the state government will transfer the current deputy commissioner of East Khasi Hills, Matsiewdor War Nongbri.”
The organisations are against the transfer of the DC who will apparently be replaced by a non-indigenous officer, Marngar said.
He argued that there is no dearth of efficient officers and civil servants among the indigenous community.
“We are not disapproving anyone but since there are efficient officers among the locals, preference should be given to them rather than bringing an outsider,” Marngar said.
