Meghalaya may appoint MCS officers as secretary in KHADC, JHADC

SHILLONG: Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma on Thursday said that the Government  could consider request from KHADC and JHADC to appoint Meghalaya Civil Services (MCS) officers in the posts of Secretary in both the Councils .

With an aim to streamline the functioning of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC), the Meghalaya government had appointed a Meghalaya Civil Services (MCS) officer in the post of Secretary of the Council.

When asked if the Government would appoint MCS officer in KHADC and JHADC, Conrad Sangma said that the MCS officer was appointed in GHADC following a  written  request from the CEM of GHADC and if there were similar requests from the CEM and EC of both KHADC and JHADC, the Government would consider the requests.

Earlier, while replying to the debate on the Governor’s address in the Assembly here, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma had announced that an MCS officer has been appointed as the secretary to ensure that the GHADC stabilizes

The Government has already made it clear that the step has been taken not to underestimate the officers and staff of the Council but because it was felt that there was a need for a person who has administrative experience to streamline the functioning of the Council.
