BSF beefs up security ahead of polls

SHILLONG: The Border Security Force (BSF) has beefed up security along the Indo-Bangla border in view of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

In a statement, the BSF said it is strategizing its deployment in the border and the force would send additional manpower during the elections along with surveillance equipment.

However, the BSF said they are not expecting any threat or disturbance from the other side of the border.

Meanwhile, three persons were apprehended by BSF troops at Lalghat in West Khasi Hills on Thursday. Smith Ch Sangma (22), Purno R Marak (24) and Amiston T Sangma were travelling on a motorcycle (ML-06-4839) when they were stopped by BSF personnel stationed in the area.

Rs 20 lakh was recovered from their possession along with four mobile phones. According to sources, the three individuals were from different villages in South West Khasi Hills and stated that the money was received from Shillong.

However, the source and the purpose of the money have not been confirmed. The apprehended persons were handed over to the concerned department for further legal action along with the seized items.
