SHILLONG: The Department of Social Work at Martin Luther Christian University celebrated the World Social Work Day on the university premises on Tuesday.
The programme with theme ‘promoting the importance of human relationship’ was held in the presence of Chancellor Glenn C Kharkongor and Vice Chancellor Vincent T. Darlong, alongside organising partners Reach Shillong Ministries, Annual Status of Education Report (ASER), the North East Network, Manbha Foundation, Mott McDonald and representatives from Lamjingshai.
Professors Wankmenlang Kharbuli and Emideiwahun Rangad presented the findings of the department’s community camp held this year.The students showcased their passion with role-play performances which included the role and capacity of a social worker to help vulnerable individuals of the community, depicted by the 6th semester students. Also, the second role-play was a display of a folk tale “U Klew Bad Ka Sngi” which said that humility was the crux of building healthy relationships.
Kevin Laldinthara, an MSW student narrated an incident of engaging with street children during his field work.
