World Oral Health Day event held

SHILLONG/NONGPOH: The World Oral Health Day was observed at Civil Hospital at the Dental OPD on Wednesday under the theme, “Say ahh: Act on mouth health”.
Speaking to reporters, Dental surgeon, Lana Lyngdoh said the day is observed to remind people about the importance of oral hygiene. “People have to maintain discipline when it comes to oral hygiene,” she said.
As a means to create awareness, she said dentists would often visit schools to check the oral health of students, and give training to nurses, paramedics, Anganwadi on dental health.
In Nongpoh, joining hands with the rest of the country in observing World Oral Health Day 2019, the Umsning Community Health Centre under the leadership of Dr. I. Tiewsoh marked the day with a special camp and free dental check-up at Umsning CHC on Wednesday. It was held under the aegis of National Oral Health Programme.
During the programme, Tiewsoh enlightened the public on the importance of oral health.
Tiewsoh also recommended changing of toothbrush every three months. Toothbrushes and toothpaste were distributed to schoolchildren and other participants.
Over 300 people from Umsning area benefitted from the camp.
