SHILLONG: KHADC chief executive member Teinwell Dkhar said the allotment of funds for afforestation schemes in the constituencies under Khasi Hills Autonomous District is subject to availability of fund.

Dkhar was replying to a query by Congress MDC Ronnie Lyngdoh who raised the issue taking into consideration the negative impact of climate change that has become a transnational challenge.

Expressing discontentment with the reply of the CEM, he urged the executive committee to frame laws to prevent rampant felling of trees in view of the growing concern for climate change.

To this, Dkhar said the funds come from the government. On the other hand, Lyngdoh pointed out that the source of water in the urban areas is in Upper Shillong while the Hima Mylliem plans to set up a resort in the area. He raised a concern that the setting up of a resort will pollute the source of water.

To this, Dkhar said the KHADC will inspect the site.
