SHILLONG: The Congress on Tuesday made light of the BJP’s presence in the fray for Lok Sabha polls in Meghalaya stating that it will not have any impact on Congress’ prospects as their vote bank stands intact.

The entry of the BJP in the fray has been construed  a set-back for the Congress candidate, Vincent Pala in Shillong Lok Sabha constituency as it is expected to divide the non tribal votes that constitute a sizeable chunk of voters in the constituency, between the two parties.

Talking to newsmen after the meeting of Congress MLAs, Rajya Sabha MP Wansuk Syiem, party candidate Vincent Pala and Congress Spokesperson, HM Shangpliang said that it did not matter whether BJP was there or not as the vote bank of the Congress would always remain.

Reacting to the statement of BJP poll candidate Sanbor Shullai that everyone criticises the BJP during the elections but after the polls  it is always Bhai! Bhai!  for the parties, Shangpliang said that the Congress would take it as a gimmick.

The Congress Spokesperson also said that the party will eradicate poverty through the NYAY (Minimum Income Guarantee Scheme) which AICC president Rahul Gandhi had announced recently.
