Cash seizure touches Rs 25L

SHILLONG: Election officials in East Garo Hills seized Rs 2.5 lakh on Tuesday taking the total seizure amount to over Rs 25 lakh in the state ahead of the April 11 Lok Sabha polls.
The first seizure of Rs 20 lakh was reported from South West Khasi Hills on March 16 followed by seizure of Rs 3 lakh on March 20 from Ampati. Later on Sunday, Rs 1 lakh was seized from Ampati again.
The money was recovered mostly from vehicles by flying squads and members of the static surveillance team.
Liquor seized
Police seized large quantity of liquor from Mawrynkneng, East Khasi Hills, on Monday. Several bottles of whisky and beer were seized by the sleuths.
Chief Electoral Officer Frederick Kharkongor said continuous efforts will be made to check misuse of cash and liquor in the run-up to the polls.
