SHILLONG: UDP MDC Paul Lyngdoh on Tuesday said that the MUDA Building Bye-laws issue has generated only heat and not light during elections as he suggested setting up of a similar agency in the KHADC.
Replying to Congress MDC Lamphrang Blah during the council’s ongoing Budget session, in a splash of wit, he said the House, however, would throw light and not generate heat on the MUDA muddle.
Lyngdoh said that the MUDA Building Bye-laws is a politically sensitive issue and has been the main talking point during elections.
Speaking about the MUDA Building Bye-laws notification issued on February 1, Lyngdoh said that it will be examined thoroughly after the session.
It may be mentioned that the notification stated that MUDA has been entrusted with implementing the bye-laws for municipal and scheme areas.
He said it will be an opportunity to replace confrontation with coordination between the state government and the district council.
The past has been witness to tussle between the KHADC and the state government over the bye-laws.
Lyngdoh mooted setting up of an agency similar to MUDA in the KHADC, which will be manned by engineers, designers and architects.
Blah urged the Executive Committee to make sure that the poor are not harassed due to the application of MUDA Building Bye-laws.
