GUWAHATI: Launching the election campaign for the BJP-led alliance in Assam on Thursday, the BJP president Amit Shah called upon the voters to make Narendra Modi as the Prime Minister once again for a developed and stronger India and to facilitate rapid development in Assam and rest of the Northeast.

Addressing a massive election rallies at Kaliabor and Teok under Kaliabor and Jorhat Parliamentary constituencies, the BJP president lambasted the opposition Congress party for forging an ‘unholy’ alliance with Badaruddin Ajma-led All Indian United Democratic Front (AIUDF) , a party seen as the champion of the causes of illegal Muslim migrants from Bangladesh.

“The Congress leader and former Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi thunders ‘who is Badaruddin’ for public consumption, but maintains covert understanding with the AIUDF chief for the sake of getting his son, Gaurav Gogoi, elected from Kaliabor as well as to get votes of illegal Bangladeshi migrants through AIUDF.”

Maintaining total silence on the contentious Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) which generated public ire against the BJP in the state recently, the BJP president during his address in both the massive rallies flaunted the BJP’s agenda of ‘bikash’ (development) and pointed out that Narendra Modi headed BJP government in the Centre provided various development projects worth about Rs 3 lakh crore for Assam during the last five years.

He flayed the former Prime Minister and Congress leader Dr Manmohan Singh for providing only Rs 50,000 crore for Assam during five years even though he had represented Assam in Rajya Sabha for 20 years.

“The BJP does not need to explain to Rahul Baba (Rahul Gandhi) about the development and welfare projects undertaken by the BJP-led NDA government headed by Narendra Modi. The BJP government in the centre implemented 133 development and welfare projects for the people of India during the last five years. Now, let the Congress explain what it did for the country during over 60 years of its rule in the country. Four generations of Rahul Baba has ruled this country, so he needs to explain what the Congress party has done for the country,” Amit Shah said.

He said, “We’ve secured our borders which was unheard of during the Congress-led UPA regime. We avenged the attacks that took place in Uri and Pulwama. Thus India become only third country in the world after the US and Israel which don’t hesitate to avenge deaths of their soldiers.”

“Surgical strike, air strike, A-Sat not possible with Congress, but BJP has showed the world its capability to carry out the same in the greater interest of protecting the country,” Amit Shah said.

The BJP president hoped that the BJP and its allies AGP and Bodoland People’s Party (BPF) will be able to win all the 14 parliamentary seats in Assam as ‘it is only the BJP that is committed to rapid development of Assam and drive out illegal migrants from the state once the National Register of Citizens (NRC) is updated.’

Amit Shah first addressed a rally at Kaliabor Parliamentary constituency for alliance candidate Moni Madhab Mahanta (of the AGP) who is contesting against sitting MP, Gaurav Gogoi, son of Congress veteran Tarun Gogoi whose family has been representing the constituency for the last 28 years.

The second rally was at Teok under Jorhat Parliamentary constituency where the BJP has fielded Topon Gogoi, a present minister in Assam and a former leader of All Assam Students Union (AASU).
