SHILLONG: The city faces serious road congestion due to increase in the number of vehicles and insufficient parking space.
Traffic snarl is the result of lack of personnel to handle the plying of vehicles on roads and proper parking facilities near schools and universities.
Street vendors, especially in Police Bazar and near Civil Hospital, occupy significant portions of roads that lead to congestion of space. There is no space for pedestrians to walk on footpaths.
The government should implement a solution to do away with the problem of rising traffic snarls in the city. It should clear the footpaths and roadsides for smooth flow of traffic. On the other hand, it should give the vendors a separate space from where they can run their business and earn livelihood.
