MAWKYRWAT: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) of Mawkyrwat Circle on Sunday expressed concern over the lack of initiatives by the state government to solve the problems faced by different schools in Mawkyrwat and South West Khasi Hills district as a whole.
KSU education secretary, Tanlumbor K Kharai lamented on the fact that deficit schools in the district usually have only one teacher who is required to cover all the subjects from nursery to Class 5.
“This will affect the students because the teacher has to cover all the subjects and will not be able to lift the students and school on same level with others,” Kharai said.
The union urged the government to upgrade the upper primary schools to secondary schools in far-flung areas like Phlangkynshi with over 4000 population, Mawbidong and Manad areas with over 6000 population.
