SHILLONG: In the last Assembly polls, Bangladeshi citizens eagerly viewed India’s democracy from across the fence when the voting was going on at Dalia border polling station under Shella Assembly constituency.
This time too, the Election Department expects similar curiosity from people across the border as it is preparing to hold the polls on April 11.
Chief Electoral Officer Frederick Kharkongor said on Thursday that Dalia polling station located close to the international fence has 507 male voters and their female counterparts are 443.
The BSF will guard the polling station to have a free and fair poll, he said.
Kalatek and Kamsing
The newly created polling station Kalatek under Shella Assembly constituency is the state’s second polling booth accessible solely by boat, the other being Kamsing polling station in Amlarem sub-division in West Jaintia Hills.
Polling personnel, after crossing the river by boat, have to trudge a couple of kilometers on hot sand, the official said.
There are 420 male and 336 female voters under Kalatek. Kamsing is the smallest polling station in the state with only 29 voters.
The election officials and security personnel have already carried out inspection at both Dalia and Kalatek a few days ago.
