IIM Shillong confers PG degree to 177 in 10th convocation

SHILLONG: As many as 177 students graduated from the Post Graduate Programme of IIM Shillong were conferred management degree during the 10th Annual Convocation of the institution here on Saturday.

For the first time IIM Shillong, conferred degrees to students of the Post Graduate programme. Twenty-three Post Graduate executive students were also conferred Post Graduate Diplomas.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Vivek Lall Vice President, Aeronautics Strategy and Business Development at Lockheed Martin Corporation said that educational systems across the globe were different but its goal was the same since people across the countries wanted development and technology growth

Asking the students to combine their knowledge skills, character and compassion while taking on the challenges which they will face now, he added that the entire world was expecting Indians to be creative and innovative.

He said that the new generation is facing expectations for a change that make this earth more liveable and mentioned that late Dr A P J Abdul Kalam, known here in IIM Shillong as “Kalam Sir”, while teaching used to ignite young minds to dream for an India that would not only occupy a prime place in the world of nations but also take care of the people living at the bottom of the pyramid.

He mentioned that, IIM Shillong is different with reference to the development models and the policy related issues, which , he said, are key for the economic growth of a nation in particular and world in general. He also said that the developments should be sustainable in the long run.

Chairman of the Board of Governors, Shishir Kumar Bajoria pointed out that the IIM Shillong within a decade has emerged as one of the best IIMs

He also said that the students of the IIM Shillong have got privileges but these come with obligations to the nation. “It’s nation first there is nothing higher than nation and no company, institute,” he said.

Political Director of the Institute, Prof D P Goyal added that the students had made a significant contribution in national and international competitions and brought laurels to the institute.

He  also informed that the work for the first phase construction of the permanent campus of IIM Shillong was going on in full swing and  would be completed by next year

Arjun V was awarded Chairman’s Gold Medal for securing highest CGPA and Parag Sharna was awarded the Institute Silver medal for the second highest CGPA.

Director’s Gold Medal for Best All-Rounder and Institute’s medal for positive contribution to campus life was awarded to Subhabrata Mukherjee. Thota Varun Kumar was awarded Institute Medal for Positive Contribution to Campus life.

For the PGPEx Program,  Kumari Poulami Mitra was awarded the Chairman’s Gold Medal for securing highest CGPA and Ankur Nahar was awarded Gold Medal for best all-rounder for the class of 2018.

With its consistent performance this season, the Institute recorded average CTC of Rs 16.79 lakh per annum witnessing a significant increase of 8.3% over the last year. The highest domestic CTC stood at Rs 28 lakh per annum. The recruitment drive was participated by  from 62 recruiters.
