Mock drill to prepare for earthquake held

JOWAI: The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) along with the district administration conducted a mock exercise on earthquake on Saturday.
The mock exercise was conducted at St Anthony’s College extension in Byndihati, East Jaintia Hills to generate awareness among people and evaluate response mechanism.
Several departments including Meghalaya Fire Service, Directorate of Health and NGOs besides NDRF participated in the drill. 1st Battalion NDRF assisted in planning and co-ordination.
NDRF rescuers demonstrated various extrication methods like high-rise rescue, victim stabilisation, triage of victims etc. following the disaster site safety plan.The SAR teams rescued the missing/injured students using search and rescue techniques from the classes while MFR teams provided first aid.
“Such exercises should be conducted in every district of the Northeastern region which falls under high seismic zone of earthquake,” assistant commandant of 1st Battalion NDRF Santosh Kumar Singh said.
