Five LS constituencies go to polls in phase-I in Assam on April 11

GUWAHATI:  Five Parliamentary Constituencies in Assam – Tezpur, Kaliabor, Jorhat, Dibrugarh and Lakhimpur – is going to polls on April 11 in the first phase of Lok Sabha election.

Total 7603458 voters including 3865334 males, 3737970 females and 154 voters in Third Gender category will vote in these five Parliamentary Constituencies to elect their representative to the Lok Sabha.

Total 41 candidates including two women and 12 independents are contesting from these five Lok Sabha seats.

Poling will be held in total 9,574 polling stations across the five Parliamentary Constituencies in the first phase. There are total 47 Legislative Assembly segments under these five Parliamentary Constituencies.

There are total 14 Parliamentary Constituencies in Assam of which another five constituencies will go for polling on April 18 in the second phase of polling and the rest four constituencies will go for polls on April 23 in the third phase.

As per the trend during the electioneering the electoral battle in the five first phase constituencies is going to be basically between the BJP and its allies and the Congress.

In Kaliabor, the contest is between the Congress (sitting MP Gaurav Gogoi) versus the BJP-led alliance’s green horn Moni Madhab Mahanta (of AGP) while in the rest four constituencies the contest is confined between the BJP and Congress.
