over 44 % cast votes till 1 pm in Assam

GUWAHATI: Over  44 %  votes were cast in till 1.00 pm in Assam’s five Lok Sabha constituencies, according to data provided by the CEO office here.

The average polling percentage stood at 44.33 % per cent at 1.00 pm.

Tezpur constituency recorded 45.85 per cent while Kaliabar recorded highest  47.60 per cent followed by Jorhat (45.21 per cent), Dibrugarh ( 40.86 per cent) Lakhimpur (42.12 per cent).

A total of 41 candidates are in the fray in the five of the 14 Lok Sabha seats in Assam in this first phase of  Lok Sabha  elections.

Voting started at 7 a.m. across 9,574 polling stations. A total of 76,03,458 people are eligible to vote in the first phase polling in the state.

Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal voted in Dibrugarh on Thursday morning.

The Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) candidate for the Jorhat constituency Topon Kumar Gogoi voted at a polling station at Sonari and appealed to all sections of the people to exercise their franchise.

Of the 9,574 polling stations in the first phase polling in the state, 201 are exclusively  for women.

The Election Commission has deployed 180 companies of security personnel in this phase of election.

Total 7603458 voters including 3865334 males, 3737970 females and 154 voters in Third Gender category are eligible to vote in these first-phase Parliamentary Constituencies of Assam.
