GUWAHATI: Now you can hail a bike to commute through traffic-congested roads in Shillong.
After launch of its services in Guwahati about four months back, Bengaluru-based start-up, Rapido Bike will be operating in the Meghalaya capital later this month.
“Registrations of bike riders who are known as ‘Captains’ has already started and soon after the registering at least 100 Captains, Rapido will flag off its services,” a statement issued here said on Wednesday.
Riders can download the app and register themselves to be a Captain.
Shillong will be the second city in the Northeast where Rapido will have a presence.
“Shillong is a market where Rapido can get several solo travellers to travel around the city. The launch of the service will also generate employment opportunities for both male and female riders,” Jeetesh, regional manager for Rapido, said.
The organisation aims to tackle the issues that commuters face because of traffic congestion, especially during the rush hours.
The service offers commuters the option of a bike instead of a four-wheeler or public transport to navigate through traffic snarls quickly and reach destinations on time.
People who wish to take the service have to download the Rapido mobile app on their smart phones to book a ride.
The service provider charges a base fare of Rs 15 in addition to a distance charge of Rs 3 per km.
