GUWAHATI:  All India Congress Committee (AICC), general secretary, Priyanka Gandhi is scheduled to take part in an election road show in Silchar of Barak Valley in Assam to campaign for the party candidate and the sitting MP, Sushmita Dev.

Party source informed that the road show will start at Rongpur in Silchar town at around 10 am where thousands of party workers are expected to take part.

Sushmita Dev is facing a tough contest this time in Silchar Parliamentary Constituency against the BJP candidate Dr Rajdeep Roy.

Congress president Rahul Gandhi had already hit the campaign trail in Silchar. Despite the Congress’ known opposition to the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB), Rahul Gandhi kept mum on the issue while addressing voters in Silchar rally given that the CAB had enthused the Bengali-speaking Hindus in Silchar and the party poll candidate Sushmita Dev in her personal capacity has strongly advocated for the Bill that finally lapsed in Rajya Sabha

BJP has engaged prime minister, Narendra Modi to campaign for the party candidate. Modi has addressed a massive election rally at Ramnagar in Silchar on April 11, where he targeted the Congress for massive state on underdevelopment, plight of tea workers in the constituency. He also assured to bring back Citizenship Amendment Bill keeping in mind the presence of a large number of Bengali-speaking Hindus in the constituency.
