North Garo Hills hit by thunderstorm

TURA: Several houses were damaged in North Garo Hills by a thunderstorm that lashed the region early Monday morning. There were no loss of life.

Several thatched houses were brought down by strong winds which also blew away tin roofs in district headquarters town Resubelpara, Jonglapara and Sualmari as the 3 AM storm accompanied by lightning and powerful winds lashed the region.

The impact was felt most in the Resubelpara and Bajengdoba communidy and rural development blocks region.

Many schools are reported to have also sustained damage.

North Garo Hills deputy commissioner S C Sadhu told reporters that an assessment is currently underway to ascertain the damage caused by the storm and relief materials have been provided to the affected families.

The storm also lashed Tura and nearby regions but the damage was contained.
