SHILLONG: The annual congregation of the Seng Khasi Sein Raij also known as the Lympung will be held in Mawngap village in East Khasi Hills from April 19 to 21.
It will feature erection of monoliths and other activities such as quiz, debate, narration of folklore to the youth. Besides, there will be dances from different parts of the region to showcase the culture of the people.
The annual congregation is being organised by the Seng Khihlang with the aim to protect, preserve and propagate the values and culture of the Khasi community and also to stimulate the spirit of patriotism in the community.
The Seng Khihlang has invited organisations of indigenous faith from the entire North East to attend the programme with the intention to instill the spirit of brotherhood and to bring about spiritual binding
among the different ethnic groups of the region.
A myriad of well known personalities will also address the public during the three- day event.
One of the speakers in this function will be from Donyi-Polo, an indigenous faith from Arunachal Pradesh.
The first ever Lympung was held in Nongkrem Village on April 17, 1988 in the Khasi state of Hima Khyrim (Kingdom) with the cooperation of its units, the Seng Khasi Smith and Seng Khasi Laitkor.
The Seng Khihlang, in its endeavour to uplift the community in the field of education, skill development, etc, is working to assist and support scores of Seng Khasi and Sein Raij units to establish educational institutions especially in the remotest parts of the state. To achieve the mammoth task it has decided to explore all possibilities and will approach all agencies for assistance because of limited resources.
