SHILLONG: The Jowai Diocese on Monday condemned the Easter Sunday attack at churches and hotels in Sri Lanka.
In a statement issued here, the Bishop Jowai Diocese, Victor Lyngdoh said the Diocese held prayers for the departed souls and the injured.
The Diocese has urged the Sri Lankan government to hunt for the criminals responsible for the attack.
South Shillong MLA Sanbor Shullai, in an emergency meeting of the executive committee of all the committees and Association of South Shillong constituency, expressed condolence to the victims of Sunday’s terror attack.
Shullai condemned the barbaric act of targeting churches and Christian worshippers on the holy occasion of Easter Sunday.
He further expressed that violence on this holy day is cowardly act of the terrorists against freedom of religion.
The meeting ended with two-minute silence and also prayed for the victims of the tragedy.
The BJP, Meghalaya Pradesh, also condemned the horrific act of terrorism across Sri Lanka on Sunday.
“Our deepest condolences to the innocent victims who had gathered for prayer in various Churches on the occasion of Easter Sunday, citizens of Sri Lanka and the international community staying in hotels who lost their lives in the serial blasts which rocked across Sri Lanka. We wish for speedy and complete recovery of the injured”, the party said in a press release on Monday.
“At this hour of shock, sadness and grief, our solidarity is with the people of Sri Lanka”, it added.
