TURA/WILLIAM-NAGAR: The Garo Hills Catholic Union has expressed condemnation against the terror attacks on churches and hotels in Sri-Lanka on Easter Sunday.
In a meeting of the union members at the St. Mary’s Rosary Church in Araimile on Saturday, they condemned the dastardly and anti-human murders of innocent people who were attending church service to celebrate the resurrection of Lord Jesus Christ on Easter Sunday.
“We appeal to governments and law enforcement agencies across the globe to be more vigilant and take effective precautionary measures making it impossible for any terrorist group to play havoc with life and property of civil society in the near future,” urged the catholic union members.
During the meeting, the members observed five minutes of silence and prayed for the repose of the martyred souls and the bereaved family members.
The terror attacks carried out by a group of jihadist men and one woman caused the deaths of around 250 innocent men, women and little children. Over 500 others sustained injuries in the multiple blasts that occured on three churches and five star hotels where tourists were targetted.
Meanwhile, citizens of Williamnagar came together on Saturday evening to condemn the attacks.
Organised by the Garo Students’ Union, East Zone, people from different walks of life came together to condemn the attacks.
In a memorial service outside the premises of the deputy commissioner’s office in Williamnagar town, people lit candles and offered prayers for the departed souls and for the speedy recovery of the injured.
Pastor Priscalitha D Sangma of Williamnagar Town Baptist Church read verses from the holy Bible and offered words of solace as she spoke of the love of Jesus Christ for mankind.
Apart from the public, members of various organizations and groups also expressed solidarity by joining the peace rally.
Bikers from the Royal Enfield group Tribal Nation Riders, members of the auto rickshaw association and the sumo pick up association also took part in the religious service for the Sri Lanka victims.
