GUWAHATI: Assam police is closely monitoring sensitive areas along the state’s border with Meghalaya.
A police team led by border superintendent of police, NC Ghosh on Tuesday visited Malang Hohua, a sensitive border village located about 30 km from Boko in Kamrup district. He was accompanied by Boko police station officer in-charge, Jogendra Barman.
“It was an acclimatisation visit to the village, and my first since taking over charge in January this year,” Ghosh told The Shillong Times on Tuesday evening.
Malang Hohua, home to a waterfall and a potential tourist site, had witnessed a couple of untoward incidents last year, including an alleged mob attack on a visiting team from the state public health engineering department in September.
The SP said a visit to Lampi (Langpih), another disputed border area was also on the cards.
He further said that border problems could be solved with the support of the people and it was pertinent to take villagers into confidence before any activity is carried out in these areas.
Meanwhile, West Khasi Hills police said the district administration as well as the district police of both the states are in close touch to ensure that peace and tranquility is maintained all along the border areas.
