SHILLONG: The High Court of Meghalaya has asked the state government to set up a state-of-the-art LPG bottling plant within the old Indian Oil Corporation Limited depot land at Umiam within two months.
Hearing a PIL on distribution of LPG cylinders on Thursday, a High Court bench comprising Chief Justice Mohammad Yaqoob Mir and Justice H S Thangkhiew said, “Now, further steps are required to be taken by other respondents so as to ensure that the state of art LPG bottling plant within old IOCL depot land at Umiam for better availability of LPG cylinders is set up preferably within a period of two months”.
The court asked the concerned authorities to file status of finalisation regarding setting up of the LPG bottling plant and supply of cylinders.
The matter will be heard after two months.
Earlier, the Ri Bhoi Deputy Commissioner filed an affidavit along with the proceedings of public hearing held on April 23 for the LPG storage and bottling plant at Umiam by Indian Oil Corporation Limited.
In the proceedings, it was recorded that in the environmental public hearing conducted, all the objectives of hearing were explained and suggestions from all stakeholders were received.
The proceedings were sent to the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change for necessary action.
Member Secretary, Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board had taken care of the objections regarding public hearing.
