One dies in Nongpoh sand quarry collapse

NONGPOH: One Donboklang Laloo (18) died when a sand quarry he was working in collapsed on him at Banbudai village, Ri-Bhoi district on Thursday.
The victim was rushed to CHC Umsning, where he was declared brought dead.
Four others were also injured in the mishap.
According to the headman of Banbudai village, BP Syiem, the incident occurred when the five youths were extracting sand near the village. Donboklang Laloo, hailing from the village, was buried under a pile of sand when it fell on him and died on the spot while the four others had a miraculous escape.
The injured have been identified as Juban Syiem, Staily Rani, Ristowel Rynshon and Pyndaplang Syiem, all hailing from Banbudai village.
Umsning police conducted an inquiry into the incident. However, post mortem examination was exempted after a plea of the family of the deceased was approved by the District Magistrate.
