SHILLONG: Assistant Professor and HoD, Cardiology Department of NEIGRIHMS, Animesh Mishra has said that the inventory for the interventional cardiology was not available at the pharmacies located inside the premises of the institution.

In a letter to the institute’s Director, Mishra said that the correspondence by Dr Noor Topno (Medical Superintendent) regarding availability of such inventory on May 4 was duly replied by him stating that the list of inventory at the Amrit pharmacy sent by medical superintendent is not enough to proceed for any invasive emergency operations.

The non availability certificate of inventory from April  30 to May  6 given to the patients by the Amrit pharmacy was also attached with the letter including the non-availability certificate from Amrit pharmacy on May 4

He also said that since the day of confiscation of stents and other cardiac devices on April 30, department posted  34 patients and some of the telephonic referrals for acute cardiac emergencies were refuted for the want of cardiac devices at the institute and some of the admitted OPD patients were referred outside the state for obtaining treatment.

“We could not operate even a single patient since that day and discharge the patients on their request,” Mishra said in the letter.
